Uniform Generalities

The Neapolitan Army's uniforms were perhaps the most diverse and colourful in any army of the Napoleonic period. Although the first regiments raised started off with simple colours and designs on their uniforms, the ascension of Joachim Murat to the Kingdom's throne brought a flurry of new changes that would last until the final months of the Kingdom's existence. The King's avid love for flamboyant displays of embroidery and plumage caused the Neapolitan Army to be uniformed in the most spectacular mix of clothing to meet a Napoleonic battlefield.

It should be noted that this page describes generalities in uniforms that extend through several regiments of the land army. Hence, this page does not include any Royal Guard regiments.
